Atlanta Archery Club Heads to Mongolia for the Horse Archery & Nomad Festival Summer Tour

This August, Atlanta Archery Club is taking its passion for archery to one of the world's most iconic destinations for horseback archery—Mongolia.

Coach Yale will be leading our clubs archery warriors  to Mongolia to participate in the Horse Archery & Nomad Festival Summer Tour, an eight-day journey that combines professional horse archery training, cultural immersion, and one of the country's most celebrated traditional festivals. The tour runs from August 16–23, 2026, offering participants a rare opportunity to train where the centuries-old tradition of horseback archery continues to thrive.

Learning from the Birthplace of Horse Archery

Horse archery has deep historical roots in Mongolia, where mounted warriors relied on exceptional riding and archery skills for centuries. During the tour, our team will have the opportunity to learn directly from experienced Mongolian horse archers and professional trainers through progressive instruction in both ground and mounted archery.

Training will focus on:

  • Traditional field archery techniques
  • Riding and handling Mongolian horses
  • Shooting while riding at different speeds
  • Improving balance, timing, coordination, and accuracy
  • Building confidence through guided horseback archery sessions

With instruction taking place across Mongolia's breathtaking landscapes, every training session offers both technical growth and an unforgettable setting.

More Than Training—A Cultural Experience

One of the most unique aspects of this journey is the opportunity to experience authentic Mongolian nomadic life.

Throughout the tour, participants will stay in traditional gers, spend time with local nomadic families, care for livestock, and travel across the vast steppe alongside experienced horse archers. Rather than simply visiting Mongolia, the experience allows participants to live as the locals do while gaining a deeper appreciation for the country's rich traditions and way of life.

The Nomad Festival

The highlight of the trip is attending the Nomad Festival, one of Mongolia's premier celebrations of traditional culture.

A Journey of Growth

Beyond the technical skills gained through daily practice, the experience is designed to challenge participants physically, mentally, and culturally.

Each day introduces new opportunities to refine horseback archery techniques while developing stronger horsemanship, adaptability, and confidence. From riding across open grasslands to training with accomplished Mongolian horse archers, every moment contributes to a deeper understanding of one of the world's oldest martial traditions.
