Humor & The Practice Of Archery
It has been said that it takes 30 minutes to learn to shoot a bow and a lifetime to master. Well, a lifetime is a long time, and to keep the drive and passion alive, it is a great idea to have a sense of humor about your practice. Studying any discipline calls upon our focus and deserves an appropriate amount of seriousness - it can become easy to get frustrated if we do not progress as quickly as we would like. When I was teaching "The Hero Dad Infant Manual Class" to expecting fathers I would share that when it comes to activities with young children the activity takes twice as long and you get half as much done - but the key is not to get frustrated, and instead to see the humor in it! With our practice of archery, we tend to have periods of rapid growth and aha moments followed by days when we just cannot hit the mark or make the right grouping. In these moments, remember we are standing on a ball of dirt, spinning through outer space trying to hit a mark with our arrow. If you ask me, that's pretty funny. Hopefully, that will remind you to smile and laugh, and if not think about how even a "bad" day on the range playing with our bows and arrows is still better than a good day at the office or at school. See you at the range. With Gratitude, Coach Yale : )
